The ICE-40 Cuisinart ice cream maker is the most unusual of the Cuisinart automatic ice cream makers.
This is an electric machine with a gel-filled canister. The one problem with this type of machines is that you can only make one batch of ice cream at a time. Because the canister has to be pre-frozen for a minimum of 8 hours, if you need to make several batches, you only option was to buy an extra canister, or make your ice cream over several days - until Cuisinart's ICE-40 came along.
To allow you to make two batches at a time, without jumping into the considerably higher price range of a self-cooling compressor machine, Cuisinart offers what is a really a double machine.
The ice cream maker sports two 1-quart canisters. You can choose to make one or two batches in 30 minutes. So if you can't decide between chocolate or pistachio, you don't have to - make them both!

The only possible drawbacks of the Duo are that, being a double machine, it takes up more counter space than other models, and you have to have enough room in your freezer for both canisters.
