Deni Ice Cream Maker Reviews

There's a Deni ice cream maker, and a Deni soft serve ice cream maker.

The ice cream maker comes in two models: the 5200 and the 5205 version. The difference is the 5205 machine comes with a built-in candy crusher and is available in several candy-bright colors. The 5200 is white.

Deni Automatic Ice Cream Maker with Candy Crusher

Both machines are automatic electric ice cream makers with a gel canister. The canister must be frozen a minimum of 8 hours at 0C/32F and holds up to 1.5 quarts.

Customers like the ease of use and easy clean up. A few have complained the built-in candy crusher is a gimmick. It’s true that it is much faster to crush Smarties with a hammer than to grind them manually. On the other hand, you'd then have to stop the machine and open it in order to add your extra ingredients, which would not be as easy as using the candy crusher.

Features:

  • Automatic

  • Compact size

  • Anti-slip rubber feet

  • Hidden cord storage

The 5200 and 5205 are both decent machines. They rate well with customers and make good ice cream. Our only caveat is they cost as much as the Cuisinart ICE-20, one of our Top Three winners, and we can't think of one good reason anyone would choose a Deni over the highly-rated Cuisinart.

The Deni Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker

Deni's soft serve machine is based on the same idea as the ice cream machines, but only makes 1 quart. The top of the machine houses a gel canister that must be pre-frozen at least 8 hours.

When the ice cream is ready, you can dispense it straight into a cone or bowl, just like at an ice cream parlor. Or at least, you should be able to.

Unfortunately, the gel canister won't freeze properly unless your freezer goes below 10C/3F. (Most other canisters – including the one for the Deni ice cream maker - freeze at 0C/32F). For many customers, this means they never actually get anything more than slush.

Avoid this machine. You're better off considering the ICE-45 Cuisinart soft serve ice cream maker, or choosing an ice cream maker and serving the ice cream as soon as it's done.
