Basic Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe
A basic homemade chocolate ice cream recipe that's sure to delight.
Ingredients:
2 eggs
¾ cup of sugar
2 cups of cream
1 cup of milk
7 ounces of high-quality dark chocolate, preferably at least 72% chocolate, chopped in small pieces
- Beat the eggs and sugar until white and frothy.
- Warm the milk and cream, but do not simmer.
- Pour half a cup of the warm milk into the egg mixture, mix well and slowly add the rest of the milk and cream.
- Return mixture to pot and cook until it becomes thick enough to coat the back of a spoon - around 80 C (175 F). When it is ready, you should be able to run your finger down the back of the spoon and the line should stay there. Do not let the mixture simmer, or it will curdle.
- Remove from fire and stir in chopped chocolate. Stir well until chocolate melt and mixture is uniform in color.
- Refrigerate custard several hours until well chilled.
- Pour into ice cream maker.
Note:
Although the recipe calls for dark chocolate, the resulting ice cream is a milk chocolate flavor. If it’s a richer chocolate experience you’re after, try our dark chocolate ice cream recipe.
