Soft-Serve Rival Electric Ice Cream Maker
This Rival electric ice cream maker is really a soft serve ice cream maker designed to make slushies and frozen drinks, rather than ice cream. The machine uses a 1-quart gel canister which, unlike other gel-canister ice cream machines, is set horizontally. This makes it look like more like the slushy machines you see in restaurants. There’s a cool handle that allows you to dispense your frozen drink straight into your glass. The machine also makes alcoholic frozen drinks – four 8-ounce drinks per batch.

You can make three batches of frozen drinks or one batch of soft serve ice cream each time you pre-freeze the gel canister. Although it makes a decent soft serve, consider this machine if you plan on making frozen drinks and only occasionally making a batch of ice cream. If ice cream is more important to you than slushies, though, opt for a regular gel-canister electric ice cream maker instead and serve the ice cream as soon as it is made, for a soft-serve consistency. Or, if you are really into the whole experience of dispensing soft serve ice cream, you might want to consider the Cuisinart soft serve ice cream maker. Although it is substantially more expensive, it does make better ice cream.
