Rival Ice Cream Freezer
Review

Like the newer oval rival ice cream freezer, this 4-quart, round model is a modern take on the old fashioned ice cream maker. There’s an electric motor to churn the ice cream, but you have to supply salt and ice to freeze it.

The sturdy plastic bucket is less likely to leak than the wooden ones. It’s also easy to clean and pretty easy to use: add the ingredients to the inner container, assemble and close the machine, turn it on and add the ice and salt while it's running.

This last step is pretty labor intensive and many users complain the motor is loud. On the other hand, like a good old fashioned ice cream maker, this one turns out smooth ice cream – and lots of it at a time.

Rival 4 Quart Ice Cream Freezer

For the same price, however, (under $30), the newer Rival 4-quart Rival ice cream maker is a bit easier to store and requires a bit less ice to do the job.
