What’s more, it does it faster than the similar electric model. You can have 6 quarts of outstanding soft-serve ice cream in as little as 15 to 20 minutes. (Harder ice cream takes a little longer, only because it needs more time to freeze.) No electric machine can compare.

This machine is easy to use, easy to clean, lots of fun, and has a devoted following of loyal fans who would never use anything else.

That said, the company was bought out by Rival and then sold to Jarden, Corp. a few years later (Jarden now also owns Rival). Since then, rumor has it some of the components have been manufactured in China and the quality of the machine’s construction – handle, metal gears, etc. – has been somewhat uneven. Most units seem to be as good as ever, but there have been more duds than there ought to be.

We still recommend this machine as the best hand crank ice cream maker you can get. But we do suggest you give it a thorough work out before the return date on your purchase expires, to make sure you’ve got a good quality machine that will last for decades.
